This article of Paolo Di Leo analyses the merit of Hans Jonas’ reading of Plotinus’ philosophy within the sphere of Gnostic thought. By looking at key concepts, analysed by Jonas himself, of Plotinus’ philosophy through a phenomenological approach, this article argues that the thought of Plotinus cannot be linked to Gnosticism in any substantial way, but in fact it is in its essence opposite to it. The key-words on which the analysis is conducted are θεωρία and πίστις.
