At the end of June, Acumen published Ivo De Gennaro‘s book The Weirdness of Being. Heidegger’s Unheard Answer to the Seinsfrage. The unitary intention of the texts that are assembled in this volume is to blaze trails for the Seinsfrage — that is, the other onset of thinking — to find its way into English speaking philosophy, or rather to indicate the need for such trails to be blazed within the English language as a language of thinking. Indeed, in spite of the great number of translations of Heidegger’s texts that are being produced, and the copious historicizing literature on his thinking, the Seinsfrage has as yet barely spoken in English. In other words, an English speaking echo to the Denkweg is yet to resound. The mentioned trails are notably some of the keywords of Heidegger’s Denkweg, such as Dasein, Geschichte, Möglichkeit, Wesen, and others, for which new translations are suggested and argued in this book.

Among the sources that the volume discusses are some of Heidegger’s posthumous treatises, notably Das Ereignis (Gesamtausgabe, Vol. 71).

La lettura di questo meso è la prima parte di una riflessione di Maurizio Borghi sulla questione della valutazione anonima nell’università odierna. In questo scritto ci si interroga sul ruolo assunto dall’anonimato nell’attuale vita universitaria – dalla ricerca all’insegnamento – e si tenta di analizzarne alcune conseguenze. Borghi – L’anonimato nell’università odierna

This month’s reading is a paper on research evaluation by Ivo De Gennaro. The paper discusses three interrelated questions: first, whether or not scientific research can be evaluated as such; second, what it implies that scientific research is subjected to evaluation, even though it can be shown that it is, as such, unevaluable; third, how the suggestiveness that research evaluation actually has to do with science as such is supported by the fact that evaluation procedures involve peers. In some of its main arguments, the paper draws on the analyses presented in the book The Dictatorship of Value that De Gennaro published jointly with Gino Zaccaria.

De Gennaro – Evaluating the Unevaluable

Last April Frank Schalow‘s new book “Departures. At the Crossroads Between Heidegger and Kant” was published by de Gruyter. This is Schalow’s third book on Heidegger and Kant, after “Imagination and Existence. Heidegger’s Retrieval of the Kantian Ethic” (1986) and “The Renewal of the Heidegger-Kant Dialogue: Action, Thought, and Responsibility” (1992). Apart from these monographs, Schalow has devoted a number of articles to different aspects of Heidegger’s Auseinandersetzung with Kant. While there is a vast literature on the relation between these thinkers, the distinguishing feature of “Departures” is that it elucidates their dialogue in light of the emerging corpus of Heidegger’s Gesamtausgabe, and, most significantly, of his posthumous treatises. This circumstance gives a particular weight to what Schalow declares – not only as a matter of fact, but programmatically – in the “Introduction” to his book, namely, that in his Auseinandersetzung with his predecessors Heidegger “gives voice to what otherwise remains muted – and thereby forgotten – in the most perennial of all philosophical concerns, the question of being.”

La lettura di giugno è un estratto da un lavoro inedito di Gino Zaccaria, adattato per la presente pubblicazione su eudia. Nell’indicare lo scorgimento della provenienza dell’arte dal salubre, il testo intreccia in un unico serto di delucidazione il XVIII degli Inni omerici (presentato come lettura di aprile 2013), i versi sulla fondazione dei Giochi, contenuti nella Terza Olimpica di Pindaro, e la metopa di Atlante del tempio di Zeus a Olimpia.

Zaccaria – La provenienza dell’arte

Vor kurzem erschien im Centaurus Verlag Freiburg Jürgen Gedinats Buch “Ein Modell von Welt. Unterwegs in der Globalisierung”. Das Buch versammelt eine Reihe von Aufsätzen, die die metaphysischen und historischen Voraussetzungen des unsere Epoche dominierenden Modelldenkens sowie dessen konkrete Formen in der Wissenschaft und im öffentlichen, vor allem wirtschaftlichen und politischen Diskurs beleuchten. Aus dem Klappentext:

“Die zentrale Einsicht dieses Buches ist, daß es sich bei der aktuellen Krise im Grunde um eine Krise des Verstehens handelt. Die besteht nicht allein in einem Mangel an wirklich maßgebenden Gedanken, sondern – bei allem Wettlauf um Innovationen und allem Hochfrequenzhandel – auch in der Ausbreitung einer Art mentaler Sklerose: das heutige Weltverständnis richtet sich immer stärker in leblosen Modellen ein und läuft so Gefahr, seine Wirklichkeitskompetenz einzubüssen […] Selbst wenn jeder die Dynamik der Globalisierung mehr oder weniger stark zu spüren bekommt, muß das nicht heißen, daß sie dabei auch schon angemessen verstanden würde, dringlicher scheint es, sich auf sie einzustellen. Vor kurzem erschien im Verlag Königshausen & Neumann Ralf Lüfters Buch “Heidegger und die Frage nach der Geschichte”. Die Abhandlung entwickelt die Frage nach der Geschichte, ausgehend von der metaphysischen Geschichtsbetrachtung u. a. bei Vico, Kant und Nietzsche, über die Unterscheidung von Geschichte und Historie bis ins Denken der Geschichte als Wesung des Seyns. Dabei erweist sich “das Da-sein als die in-Frage-stehende Einsatzstelle für das ursprüngliche Fragen nach dem Wesen der Geschichte”. Der Abhandlung vorangestellt ist ein Wort Martin Heideggers: “Wohin anders als in das stets Fragwürdigste?”.
